Mixed Media Journal Page Inspired by Jamie Dougherty
Mmmmm June's Colour Challenge colours are from the Grease themed Beauty School Dropout set from Lindy's Stamp Gang, and they are pretty and fun - so what did I do - I watered them down and used them to add extremely subtle colour to a journal page! I have to say - I tried a new way of using my Magical powders and I am in love all over again.
You can grab this gorgeous special edition set and matching embossing powders over on the Lindy's Stamp Gang site and YES they do ship worldwide.
Now any of you who know Jamie Dougherty's work (ie Jaylynn Scraps, creator of Bloom Girls) will recognise Jamie's influence in the face I have created, that's because I drew this as part of Jamie's online class that I was taking - Bloom Girls 2 where Jamie describes in detail how to create a Bloom Girl face. Now I ended up going 'rogue' a bit on this one, so don't take the class expecting to see this exact face colour, antlers and all, but you will learn the basics that will enable you to draw your own version of Jamie's Bloom Girl. I thought this class was excellent for beginner to intermediate abilities as there is an introduction to canvas, backgrounds, drawing faces, shading and embellishing your art.
To make sure my background and image had common elements I used the same colour Magicals to add colour to the gesso background and to the main image. The background has splashes of - Frenchy's Pink Pouf, Pink Ladies Pink, Summer Lovin' Sun & Kissin Kenickie Coral, while the portrait uses Pink Ladies Pink, Summer Lovin' Sun, Kissin Kenickie Coral and T-Bird Turquoise. I LOVED the way the colours blended a little with the gesso and became this beautiful creamy paint. Combine with the Stabilo All Black pencil and the combination was stunning.
My final page grew into this, I think it started with the word Guardian I collaged on as part of the background, then when I added the flower stencil in her hair I just felt like my 'Guardian' needed some antlers and some gold to match the yellow of the Summer Lovin' Sun on her face - somehow adding these made it feel complete.
Doesn't it look sort of like it's glowing!! I think there is definitely 'something' about her :)
