3 Ways to Create Vintage Grunge Effects using Lindy's Stamp Gang Products

Watercolour Effect Journal Page

Hello again - I hope you are all having an amazing month - I am, you know the kind of month where you walk around smiling, happy and singing to yourself - well that's me right now!

The Lindy's Stamp Gang Color Challenge palette for May is stunning - absolutely stunning - it pairs some of my absolute favourite Lindy's colours of al time!  I felt completely inspired by these colors so I decided to be brave and try something I've been thinking about for a while now!

Included in this month's set are:

SPRAYS: French Lilac Violet (starburst), Pineapple Paradise (Flat), Bells Of Ireland Green (starburst), TiffanyLou Blue (starburst), Tea Pot Purple and Tilt-A-Wheel Teal

EMBOSSING POWDER: Venus Violet Blue, Sunset Yellow Orange, Ghouly Goblin Green and Angel Wings Mauve

To create my project this month  I used 4 Starburst Sprays (TiffanyLou Blue, Tea Pot Purple, French Lilac Violet & Bells of Ireland) and a Flat Fabio (Pineapple Paradise) - sigh, beautiful before I even begin.

To create a background, I wet about half my journal page with water (I'm using the X-Press It Mixed Media journal) then I sprayed all of my colours onto a craft mat and smooshed my journal page into the colour puddles.  The wet section allowed the colours to run, blend and soften while the dry section absorbed the colour in darker and more defined spots and patches.  While the page was still wet, I took the sprayers out of the bottles and flicked a little of each colour over the background.  This created a stunning watercolor effect on the page (which I was too excited to start drawing on to photograph!!!).

I used Natalie Portman as a model and drew a heavy outline and added the darkest shadows using Derwent Inktense pencils.  I wet these a little to create shadows on the face.

I added more subtle colour using Prismacolor pencils and then darkened some of the lines using a Carbon Pen.

For the final touch, I added a little sparkle using the Clear Wink of Stella brush pen - just a hint on the eyes and in the hair, I wanted it to compliment the sparkle on the background from the Starburst sprays.

The idea in my head and what I produced were fairly similar, I may play a little more with the image and darken the area around the face a bit more in the future - maybe....
