Valentines' Day Card
I just found out this card won a challenge over at Sassy Studio Designs - woohoo!
This card serves 3 purposes:
- I needed to practice colouring with reds for my homework for my Copic class with Suzanne Dean
- I needed to make a Garnet themed card for my Copic Musketeers Birthstone swap
- I've never made a Valentine's Day card, or a 'sexy' card OR used a Digi stamp before, so this checked a few of the boxes for my 2011 resolutions!
What I Used:
- Sassy Studio Designs Digi Stamp - Cheerful Chelsea (one of the Sassy Fashionistas)
- Poinsettia Red Gold Starburst Stain from Lindy's Stamp Gang
- XPressIt Blending card
- Cristina Re flocked paper
- Paint brush
- Bazzil Bling crystal brads
- Making Memories crystal brads
- Black ribbon
- White folded ribbon from Bella Ribbonz
- Making Memories sticker embellishment (Be my Valentine) from theDesign Shop 'Love Stuck' set
- Plain vellum
- Red and black Bazzil card
- Glossy Accents
- Fiskars Deco Scallop punch
- Martha Stewart punch (for tiny hole pattern)
- Pop Dots
Copic Colours used:
- Leggings: B34, B91, B95 & B99 + Blender ink
- Gold Skirt: Y00, Y11, Y15, YR24 + Gold Spica pen
- Top: R35, R37, R39 & R89
- Hair: E25, E29, E31 & E35
- Eyes: YG05, YG41 & BG05
- Skin: E50, R11 & R00
- Lips: R35, R39 + Red Spica
- Ground: C00, C1, C3 & B34 + blender
- Copic Multi-liner 0.3
- Copic air brush
What I did:
- Print digi image onto XPressIt blending card and colour with Copics and Spica glitter pens listed above. Don't forget, if you want a pattern on any of your Copic work (eg: like my leggings) you MUST colour these first, dampen a piece of material with blender fluid and apply to the coloured area. DON'T ever do this after your whole image is coloured unless you want the pattern over the whole thing!
- Then use Martha Stewart punch to punch holes on right edge of coloured image. Mount onto red and black card (with Fiskars punch used to create scallop pattern.
- Use Pointettia Red Gold Starburst stain to colour ribbon and paper. Apply stain to soak ribbon
completely on both sides, leave no white space. Using a paintbrush carefully paint the stain onto the un-flocked areas of the flocked paper - try not to get the stain on the flocking as this will reduce the impact of the jet black colour. Set both aside to dry. You can see this step on YouTube
- Once all components are dry (this make take up to 12 hours depending on thickness of ribbon and weather conditions), trim all layers to size.
- Use Glossy Accents to stick vellum to bottom half of painted flocked paper.
- Use painted ribbon as a visual seperation for the vellum bottom half and the painted upper half, place ribbon along top of the vellum. Glue black ribbon and bow, along the very middle of the red ribbon.
- Glue image to right side of card using pop dots, this will make sure that even though image is laying over ribbon, it will appear flat.
- Carefully push 3 large Bazzil bling brads into top left corner of layer, and one smaller brad onto bottom right. Colour with Copic R39 (Garnet) so they match the card.
Using Copic airbrush system and colours R39 & R35 colour 'Be My Valentine' from the Love Stuck sticker set to match colours used on card, then trace over words with black Copic Multi-liner to enhance. Attach sticker to lower left of card.
- Mount completed front panel onto red and black cardstock to complete.
