Make a Wish - Layered Journal Page

This is a project where you will need to stick with me - as it goes through several UGLY phases before the final page is complete. This is a really versatile technique, you could try this on scrap pages, cards, journal pages or even canvas. Before I begin, I have to give a BIG thank you to Mixed Media Art who featured this article on their web site, and a shout out to the beautiful Tracy Verdugo, Tracy's class opened... Read more →

Copic Marker Mermaid

Hello hello. A few of you may know I just took the AMAZING Mermaid Circus class online with Jane Davenport and Teesha Moore - swoon! I've had a ball, though in the usual Sparkle Tart fashion I don't think I'll ever finish all of the lessons! One of the challenges was to draw a face and shade using Copic markers, I won't be telling you Jane's secrets for doing this but I will be showing you my results. Now if... Read more →

Follow Your Own True North Page for Travel Blog Hop

OK I have to admit I felt a little intimidated when asked to join in on the Basic Grey, Glue Dots and Lindy's Stamp Gang Travel Blog Hop - not only do they have amazing artists on their Design Teams, but I'm so not a scrapbooker (those 12 x 12 double layouts are scary big!). BUT my motto this year has been don't let fear stop you from doing anything - so I said yes and jumped in the deep... Read more →

Progress of a Mixed Media Journal Page

I started actively learning to draw 18 months ago now if you follow my blog you will have seen some of my efforts, I'm slow but steady in my progress. I try new techniques, I practice, I take classes, I think about what I have learned and how to use this new knowledge, I try new ideas and slowly I am becoming better at drawing. Last year I drew this fairy, she was the first thing I had ever drawn... Read more →

Flat Fabio Journal Page

I had to use these amazingly bright colours to off set my fabulous new Jane Girl stamp created by Jane Davenport - I knew right away she needed to be stamped in black on something boldly coloured (I have a few more ideas for her as well, but this one HAD to be created first). Now this may look simple at first glance, but there are layers upon layers and the closer you look the more you see, so here... Read more →

Crayon Art Canvas with Magicals Background

Something a little different today - I'm creating an Off-the-page project using my yummy sparkly paints from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Magicals and Color Shots are amazing pots of powder paint, shimmery, intense and oh so versatile. The Magicals in particular are specially formulated to work as a paint when added to water and are suitable for use on paper, wood, canvas - basically most porous surfaces. The thing I love most about these is you can control the shimmer intensity... Read more →

Kate's Copic Journal Cover

This is my project for the Lovin' Lindy Blog Hop - I love the way this turned out, it really is one of my favourite projects EVER! I think what helps to make it so special for me is that I've incorporated part of my heart into this one, the images of the beautiful little boy, the soldier and the steampunk man - are all images of my much loved Grandpa, Les Swaby. He's been gone for a while now,... Read more →

Opals and Mica Powder Dragonfly Embellishment

WATCH OUT! This is Addictive! I always end up with heaps of left over melted UTEE/Thick embossing powder/ Opals - especially the clear stuff! This embellishment shows you one way to use these leftover bits, and turn them into a stunning piece that you could use on a card front, on a scrapbook page or even as a piece of jewelery! I LOVE this technique - you never know just how it will turn out, but it's ALWAYS beautiful! What... Read more →
