I'd like to thank Petra from My Favourite Things blog for suggesting I play along with this hop, she has a fantastic blog and I'd like to encourage you to HOP over and have a look. I agreed to join in with this hop because it's a great way to get to know each other a little better. Now usually I'd 'tag' 3 people to hop along after me - but I'm going to be doing Something Different, find out what at the bottom of this post!
For the hop I have to answer six questions about myself and my art - so here goes.....
What am I working on right now?
Right now I am working on several Copic based videos and projects - you will be seeing these very soon, as well as some new Lindy's Stamp Gang projects that I'm creating due to overwhelming public demand :) I get a few questions that people ask over and over, so I decided it was time to answer a few of them on YouTube, rather than sending private emails - though I will still do this as well :) And as always am playing with some journal pages.
Eeep - not sure I want to confess this - anywhere from 3 days (which is my average time) to a few months - depending on inspiration, access to materials and time available. I work 40+ hours a week in my normal job so don't have much time except for weekends to craft. I also live in a regional area so often the internet is the only way I can acquire a particular product. This means that it sometimes takes me several weekends to complete one piece and on occasion several months of thinking about bigger things, especially if I need to order something from overseas.
ALWAYS my Lindy's Stamp Gang products, I think these are on almost every project in some way, the same goes for my Copics (markers, inks and multi liners) - these are so versatile I use them a lot. I'm also a recent convert to dry glitter (a product much loathed by me previously!). I still have an ongoing love affair with paper of all varieties - I adore the feel of it, though recently I have been playing on a few canvases. Not sure I love the feel of the canvas surface yet - but it is nice and tough and lets me apply loads of layers :)
Sometimes I begin with an idea and a clear understanding of exactly what I want to create. Sometimes I sit down to play with a product or technique and I find myself inspired and create something unexpected. Othertimes I play and fiddle and rework an idea many times over before I am happy and it is finished, sometimes the original idea is a massive failure and becomes the base for something better. And every now and then at random, I am working on something and discover a new fun, interesting way to combine things - this is my favourite, it can never be planned, rushed or encouraged - it truly is serendipity.
Simply I don't! There are weeks and even some months where I feel flat - inspiration eludes me and I hate everything I create. I have learned that this is just part of the process and you need to accept periods of 'blah' along with periods of inspiration. When things are going well then everythign in my life inspires me - the highs, the lows, the place I live, the beauty of nature, other artists, colours, patterns, almost everything provides some sort of inspiration - the thing that varies is how I draw on and use this - which varies with my mood, time frames and what else is going on in my life.
I don't know how to answer this apart from sparkly - honestly I'd love to hear from you all - what do you think is my signature style? How would you describe me and my art?
